As it’s inaugural exhibition Flight 19 presented the visual art of Mark Mothersbaugh. Mothersbaugh, known for his music composition for television and movie scores through his brilliant lab/engine of production Mutato Musika, is also best known for being the lead singer of the cutting edge musical group Devo.
Mark Mothersbaugh’s Beautiful Mutants are symmetrical studies of humans and animals using vintage 19th & 20th century portraits, transformed by the artist into “sickeningly beautiful beings”- eerily mutated beings with eyes a little too wide and smiles a little too broad.
Tampa’s curious braved an incoming hurricane to pack Flight 19 on the night of Beautiful Mutants opening reception.
